Therapeutic Approach

Helouise values warmth and empathy within the therapy space and working collaboratively with her clients. Helouise is an integrative therapist though her therapy is primarily informed from a psychoanalytically-oriented perspective. Helouise works together with her clients on a regular basis over longer periods of time (compared to other shorter, strategy based therapies) towards an in-depth understanding of the client's experiences, emotional life, and sense of self.

Longer-term psychotherapy aims to explore the meaning of symptoms through a deeper exploration of symptom origin. The aim of this therapy is that symptom reduction occurs through greater understanding of oneself and their experiences, and creating new opportunities for relating and connecting to oneself and others. This style of therapy may suit those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their experiences, and their relationships with themselves and others.

Helouise is also informed and integrates attachment and relational therapies, and trauma-informed therapies where appropriate. For those, or for some difficulties, where psychoanalytically-oriented therapy or longer-term psychotherapy may not be suitable, Helouise can offer shorter-term interventions, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, as agreed upon in conjunction with her clients. Helouise is also trained in the Circle of Security Parenting program.
